All of you know me as a blogger who is really passionate about writing. But there are few things that many people don’t know and don’t believe about me. And one of those things is that I am an Engineering student.

I am in the last year of graduation and have spent more than 3 and half years of my life pursuing B.Tech. in Information Technology. I am very well accustomed to what goes on with the students who start looking for engineering colleges in the country.

And that’s why I found myself compelled to write this article about how you need to choose an engineering college for yourself. Moreover, couple of readers requested for this article and I am no one to not abide by what my sincere readers ask me to do.

Many would think that this is an untimely article for the season of admission in engineering colleges is gone. No. My focus is not on the people who have already joined some engineering college. My focus is on those students who would look for getting admissions in year 2015.

Why is it important to look for an engineering college so early?

Because you are going to spend next four years of your life studying in some college which would teach you every single thing that you’re going to use in the next 10 years of your life. It is a huge investment and you need to be very careful for every investment has some risks. Investing in a college degree puts your life at the stake. And therefore, you need to be very careful while choosing an engineering college for yourself.

How to find the right engineering college for yourself?

Engineering College

Now that you know the importance of this decision, you would be thinking how you are supposed to decide which college you want to go to. Firstly, it all depends upon the rankings of the entrance exams you would appear for. Then, it would be your choice. My friend, both of these require some homework. And the homework needs to be done right now.

You need to make a list. Make a list of all the colleges you would want to go to. Yes, you can take help of sites like CollegeDunia to locate all the colleges available in the country. Then do some more research on those colleges. Learn about their culture, national rankings and so on. And then you need to prioritize.

After you have the list of top 10 choices of yours, you need to do research about the cut off that usually goes for those colleges. You would need to analyze what kind of rank you require to get into that particular college. Then you need to start preparing.

It does sound redundant. Doesn’t it? But that happens to people who do not know the importance of solid goals. Once you pin point the goal you want to achieve, it becomes a lot easier to pursue it and WIN.

Why is it not a wise decision to wait?

If you’re planning to be an engineer, you need to act in haste because India has tons of engineers right now but the ‘employable’ engineers are very less. And you need to get into the squad of employable engineers. And for that, you need proper research and a plan.

I entered an engineering college without doing any research and only I can understand the pain I went through because of one single mistake of not researching about engineering colleges at the time I was preparing for the entrance exams.

You must not make that mistake. You must act NOW! And yes, you need to tell this to every friend of yours if you really consider them as your friends.

  1. Quite an informative post manpreet. Being an info. Tech. student you have used the technology to pass on the information. You can probably write another post on the same subject and ask readers “Why do you want to become an Engineer” in the first place. Once this question is answered the readers can move ahead to choosing right engineering college.
